Distance runner Kaycie Stewart and field expert Katelyn Frost led the charge for the three-time defending champion Blue Devils. The Corvallis girls racked up 132 points to clear trailing Hamilton (75) and Polson (60) with plenty of room to spare. Class A Corvallis took third on the boys’ side with 55 points as the Hamilton lads ran away with it with 162. Frenchtown (66.5) was second in the boys’ ranks. Stewart took gold in the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 26.20 seconds and followed that up with a 3,200 win in 11:57.70. The latter victory came by nearly a minute over Darby’s Lily Lang (12:55.20). Frost leaped past the competition in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 5 1/2 inches. She also set the pace in pole vault by clearing 10 feet even. Bailee Senecal of Deer Lodge notched the only other multi-win day for the girls by claiming both hurdles races. She finished the 100 in 17.97 seconds and the 300 in 51.50 seconds. Senecal was also second in the pole vault, two feet below Frost, to account for all but one of the Wardens’ top-six placings. Hamilton’s Schmalz, a cross country State A champ from this past fall, rekindled that success by taking both the 1,600 (4:32.75) and 3,200 (10:15.90) distance races. His teammate Abe Westfall was the winner in the triple jump and pole vault events, leaping 42-2 1/2 and vaulting 12 feet. Silas Hasselbrook scored his own double victory for fifth-place Loyola Sacred Heart in the hurdles. He won by nearly two seconds in the 110 race (15.26) before eking out a win in the 300 (41.67) by a tenth of a second over Stevensville’s Jadin Casey. At Eureka, Troy’s Sean Opland was the big winner Saturday, but the hometown Lions swept the team titles at the Eureka Invitational track meet. Eureka beat out Troy 122 points to 87.5 for the boys’ title despite Opland’s best efforts. The sophomore won the 100-meter dash (11.27 seconds), 200 (23.26), high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) and long jump (19-1 1/2). His teammate Trinity Rice was also a two-time winner, taking the 1,600 (5 minutes, 29.69 seconds) and 3,200 (12:07.10) races. Eureka’s Brandon Conard and Khaz Yanak each won two events as well. Conard swept the 110 (15.75) and 300 (45.95) hurdles and Yanak was first in shot put (41-11 1/2) and triple jump (40-1). The Eureka girls held off Libby 102 points to 86 behind five multi-winners. Tyann Totten won the 400 (1:10.00) and 800 (2:52.42) runs, Alex Bartmess the 1,600 (5:51.93) and 3,200 (13:23.14), Stevi Johnson the 100 (13.77) and 100 hurdles (17.25), Lexi Pluid the 200 (30.00) and 300 hurdles (54.63) and Emily Billow the shot put (36-10) and discus (108-5). Libby’s Asia Jones and Marlena Urvater were two more double winners, Jones taking the javelin throw (71-5) and pole vault (7-0) while Urvater won the long jump (14-2 1/4) and triple jump (30-1).
